La Gira is located about 5 minutes by car from La Spezia Central Station, 190 meters above sea level, has a minimarket, a historic restaurant and some accomodation facilities, aboute 300 meters away there is a Post Office, a bar and pizzeria.
La Gira is exposed to the EAST offering wonderful AURORAS, DAWNS and a splendid MOON which at night reflects golden in the sea of Golfo dei poeti, allowing a view of the Apuan Alps in particular 'Il GIGANTE CHE DORME' (The sleeping giant) if you look carefully you can see 'la BELLA ADDORMENTATA'.
On certain mornings around 6.00 - 6.30, 'L'alito del drago' (The dragon's breath) phenomenon is visible from the terrace of the structure, the 'dragon's breath' phenomenon where the morning fog rises from Val di Vara, overflows and like the breath of a 'dragon' is pushed towards the city taking the shape of a river which dissolvesas if by magic at the height of La Gira.
The current provincial road resumes the Roman router of military road first then commercial road with dimensions for the time suitable for the transport of slabs of gray dolomitic stone and large holm oarks,
as evidenced by this, in early August of each year the restaurant organizes the 'tree' festival, dedicated to the over 300 year old holm oak located near the same restaurant.
Reading the book 'LA GIRA tra il Giro del Maso e il Masero' by Manlio Cozzani can be useful for finding known and lesser-known information about the location.
